We are Iskra, a family-owned enterprise with a rich history spanning almost 80 years. Our journey began in Europe, where we laid down our roots, and from where we’ve grown into a globally recognized name in the field of cutting-edge technology. At the heart of Iskra is the Šešok family, the driving force behind our vision and core values. Led by Dušan Šešok and his sons, Klemen and Matija, we pride ourselves on a leadership that combines decades of experience with youthful innovation.

We are inspired by tradition, enlightened by professional knowledge and driven by a commitment to continuous innovation, always seeking to push boundaries and stay ahead in our field. Decades of industry knowledge and our customer-centric business approach have enabled us to always offer customers more, creating value in every aspect of our relationship with them. With over 10.000 products in our portfolio and a wide presence in over 100 countries with millions of installations per month, Iskra products are one of the most trusted components in the industry. Our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitment has been recognized by Kearney & Finance, which ranked Iskra among the companies with the highest level of development in the field of ESG in Slovenia.  

Environmental responsibility: reduction of CO2 emissions by installation of Solar Power Plants at our business units, Tesla Battery Storage Systems, plant for cogeneration of heat and electricity, AquaSpark water filtration system, PlanetCare microfiber filter, E-mobility - fully hybrid vehicle fleet by 2030, etc. 

Social responsibility: safe working environment, work-life balance, commitment to fair pay, women in the workforce, lifelong learning, inclusion of persons with disabilities, etc. 

Governance responsibility: community engagement, collaboration with educational institutions, donations to schools, anti-fraud/anti-bribery initiative, cybersecurity, etc. 

 

The Iskra Timeline

 

 

Founded in 1946, our company has built a legacy defined by significant milestones that underscore our commitment to excellence and innovation. With roots firmly anchored in the past, we take pride in a rich history that has shaped our identity. While acknowledging a myriad of achievements, we spotlight select milestones that exemplify our dedication to quality and a continuous pursuit of excellence. 

►  1946–1947
Our engineers developed the E1 single-phase induction meter, together with the cam switch and cage switch, laying the foundation for Iskra's long tradition in metering and switchgear solutions. Today, switchgear remains one of the largest segments of our portfolio.

►  1953
Iskra expanded its switchgear program with the development of its first contactors and protective switches, establishing a product family that today includes mini contactors, motor contactors, auxiliary contactors, and many other industrial switching solutions.

►  1956
Our first FM antenna and the T1 three-phase electricity meter were developed, marking an important step in expanding our telecommunications and metering expertise.

►  1961
Iskra opened its modernized production plant in Otoče and merged with Iskra Capacitors Semič, strengthening its manufacturing capabilities.

►  1964
We introduced our first system solutions, expanding from individual products to integrated technical solutions for customers.

►  1970
Iskra became the largest company in the region, further increasing production through a cooperation agreement with VEB Elektroapparatewerke.

►  1979
Designer Davorin Savnik designed the ETA 80 telephone. Its extremely pure design represented an innovative solution at that time and became the most copied product of Slovenian industrial design worldwide.

►  2003
Iskra Laboratories received accreditation from the Slovenian Accreditation, reinforcing our commitment to quality and internationally recognized testing standards.

►  2011
Our first LTE antenna was developed, strengthening Iskra's position in advanced telecommunications solutions.

►  2015
Our R&D team developed the first BICOM bistable switch, connectable to smart meters, gateways and other smart devices, creating a smart solution for better energy efficiency.

►  2016
We introduced our first iMC784 measuring center.

►  2019
Iskra acquired Šibenik Shipyard, the leading ship repair yard on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, specializing in repairs of vessels up to 80 meters and the construction of new vessels up to 60 meters.

►  2021
Iskra acquired Elka, the largest electric cable manufacturer in Southeast Europe (SEE), significantly strengthening its position in cable manufacturing and energy infrastructure.

►  2022
We introduced our first fully Eichrecht-compliant energy meter, meeting the highest standards for legally compliant energy measurement in e-mobility and advanced energy systems.

►  2024
Iskra became the majority owner of Elmap, a smart engineering company specializing in solutions for water, energy, and industrial infrastructure, expanding our digitalization and engineering capabilities.

►  2025
Iskra acquired Experio, a company specializing in precision engineering and industrial automation for metal processing, further strengthening our advanced manufacturing competencies.

►  2025
Iskra also acquired ASIST, an engineering and technical consulting company specializing in automation and traffic control systems for road infrastructure, expanding our portfolio of intelligent mobility and infrastructure solutions.
